State Bank of India (SBI) has decided to impose new service charges on IMPS (Immediate Payment Service) transactions. From February 15, 2026, online IMPS transactions above ₹25,000 will be charged. However, transactions up to ₹25,000 through mobile app, internet banking or YONO app will remain free as before. These fees are intended to cover the costs of maintaining digital services.

What are the changes on online IMPS transactions?

State Bank of India (SBI) has imposed new service charges on online IMPS transactions. These charges will be applicable on transactions above ₹25,000, while online IMPS transactions up to ₹25,000 will remain free as before. These rules will be effective from 15 February 2026. The new charges are shown in the table below (applicable GST will be additional):

What will happen to offline (branch) IMPS transactions?

The service charges for IMPS transactions done through SBI branches will remain the same, there has been no change in them. IMPS transactions up to ₹1,000 are free from the branch. Transactions from ₹1,000 to ₹1 lakh are charged at ₹4 + GST, from ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh are ₹12 + GST, and from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh are ₹20 + GST.

On which accounts will these new charges not apply?

Some special salary package accounts have been exempted from these new online IMPS charges. These include Defense Salary Package, Paramilitary Salary Package, Indian Coast Guard Salary Package, Central Government Salary Package, Police Salary Package, Railway Salary Package, Corporate Salary Package, State Government Salary Package, State University Salary Package (State University Salary Package) and SBI Rishtay Account are included.

What is the maximum amount of IMPS transaction that can be done in a day?

You can transact up to a maximum of ₹5 lakh in a day through IMPS. However, different banks may have different limits as per their policies.
