New Toyota Fortuner Coming in 2026: What We Know So Far
The Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian market, and it has been ruling this segment for over a decade. With rising competition, Toyota is finally considering an update for the Fortuner, and they have also been working on the next-generation SUV. The Fortuner has been spotted testing internationally, and based on reports that have surfaced online, it looks like Toyota is planning to unveil the next-generation Fortuner in the second half of 2026.
Spy pictures of the test mules are available online, and we already have a fair idea of what to expect from the upcoming SUV. While the global unveil is expected in the second half of 2026, the SUV might only arrive in India in 2027.
In terms of design, the upcoming Fortuner will feature revised front and rear styling. It is expected to come with a larger front grille, sleeker LED headlamps, a revised and more aggressive-looking bumper, LED tail lamps with a connecting LED light bar, and possibly an illuminated Fortuner badge at the rear.
Just like the front, the SUV will also get a revised rear bumper. The side profile is expected to remain similar to the current version but with more muscular character lines. The alloy wheel design on the upcoming Fortuner is also expected to be different from the current model.

Like the exterior, the interior of the upcoming Fortuner will also be significantly updated. We expect a heavily revised or redesigned cabin with more features to help Toyota compete with growing competition. The SUV is likely to come with a new large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a similarly sized fully digital instrument cluster, similar to what we have seen on the new Land Cruiser. The steering wheel could also be borrowed from the Prado or Land Cruiser.
Toyota might also offer features like seat ventilation, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, a 360-degree camera, multi-zone climate control, powered seats with memory function, a premium audio system, and more.

Toyota may finally introduce Level 2 ADAS with the Fortuner, which would help justify its premium pricing to some extent. The new Fortuner will be based on the TNGA-F platform, which is also used in the new Hilux. This platform will help improve ride quality, structural strength, and off-road capability for this ladder-frame SUV.
While the new Toyota Fortuner may look completely new on the outside and inside, it is likely to remain largely the same under the hood. Toyota may continue to offer the SUV with the same 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine that generates 205 PS and 500 Nm of torque. It is also possible that Toyota might offer a mild-hybrid version of this engine with the next-generation Fortuner.

Apart from the diesel, we expect the 2.7-litre petrol engine to continue. There are also reports that Toyota might introduce a 2.4-litre strong hybrid petrol engine in the future. Like the current model, only the diesel variant is expected to get a 4×4 option
