New video of PV Sindhu stuck in Dubai surfaced, she said – There was a sound of explosion, the situation here is very scary.
Dubai. India’s star badminton player PV Sindhu has released a video giving information about the situation while she is stranded in Dubai. Sindhu was going from Bangalore to Birmingham, UK, where she was to participate in the prestigious All England Open Badminton Championship, but as soon as the flight landed in Dubai, the situation suddenly worsened and the airspace was closed.
In the video, Sindhu says, ‘Hello everyone, first of all I want to thank all of you, who are constantly worrying about us. I was going from Bangalore to Birmingham to play the All England Championship. After our flight landed in Dubai, the situation suddenly changed and the airspace was closed. The last few hours have been very stressful. We heard interception sounds above and a few hours later there was a huge explosion very close to where we were staying.
Sindhu told that the explosion happened very close to her coach. He was immediately taken to a safe place. This incident shocked the entire team, but everyone maintained composure. Sindhu said, ‘My coach was about 100 meters away from that place and he had to move away from there immediately. Experiencing such an incident at such close range shakes you to the core. You never expect that this will happen to you or your close ones, but sometimes circumstances are not in our control. I consider myself lucky to have a strong and united team with me. Everyone remained calm and supported each other and showed courage in this scary situation.
Meanwhile, Sindhu’s coach Indonesian coach Erwansyah Adi Pratama told PTI, ‘At this time flights are being canceled in Dubai. There has been an explosion at the airport, so we are stuck here. We have been accommodated in a hotel. We are safe, but still there is some concern. We want to go to All England. I hope to get a flight today, because Sindhu’s match is on Wednesday.
Most of the Indian players have already reached Birmingham. Men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty, Gayatri Gopichand and Trisa Jolly, Malvika Bansod have also reached. However, Unnati Hooda is still in India as her flight got canceled at the last minute. Unnati said, ‘I came to know in the morning that my flight has been cancelled. Seats are not available on other flights. I am in touch with BAI and talks are being held with BWF that perhaps my match may be delayed.
All England Championship starts from Tuesday. Many international flights were affected due to closure of airspace. This may also affect the movement of players and upcoming matches. Sindhu’s next target is to perform strongly in the All England Championships, but the current situation has increased the uncertainty. At present both are safe, but are waiting for the situation to become normal.
