New VinFast VF8— Vietnamese automobile company VinFast has officially unveiled its next-generation VinFast VF8 electric SUV for global markets. It is a premium D-segment electric car, which has been developed by the company’s in-house engineering team on a completely new platform. Coming with attractive looks, modern cabin architecture and advanced driving hardware, this car claims to be safer and more comfortable than before. Domestic customers are also eyeing this global model of Vinfast, which is trying to expand its foothold in the Indian automobile market.

New VinFast VF8: Engine, Power and Battery Pack

This time the company has made major changes in the powertrain and dimensions of the new generation VinFast VF8. The car has been made slightly more compact and more streamlined than before, making it easier to handle on urban roads. Its wheelbase has now been reduced by 110 mm to 2,840 mm.

This electric SUV now has a smaller 60.13 kWh lithium-ion battery pack than before. It has a single electric motor powering the front wheels (front-wheel drive), which generates maximum power of 228 hp and peak torque of 330 Nm. Compared to the old generation front-wheel drive model, it gets 18 hp more power and 20 Nm more torque.

According to the company’s claims, as per the standards, this car can cover a distance of up to 500 kilometers once fully charged. Apart from this, the car has excellent fast charging support, with the help of which the battery can be charged from 10 to 70 percent in just less than 30 minutes. The car has three drive modes – Eco, Normal and Sport for different driving conditions.

Cabin technology and new features

The interior of the vehicle has been completely redesigned to improve the experience inside the vehicle. The number of physical buttons on the dashboard has now been reduced to a minimum.

• The center console has a large 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which supports voice assistance.
• A new dedicated digital driver display has been added just behind the steering wheel.
• To enhance comfort, it gets a 6-way power adjustable driver seat (with memory function).
• To keep the air clean, dual-zone automatic climate control with Combi 1.0 air filter has been provided.
• For entertainment, an 8-speaker premium audio system is installed in the car cabin.

To maintain the stability of the car on road potholes and rough roads, Frequency Selective Dampers (FSD) suspension technology has been used on its front and rear axles, which makes the ride quality smooth.

Strong security arrangements and ADAS technology

In terms of safety, this premium SUV has been provided with a complete suite of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). This includes life-saving features like Highway Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Warning and high-definition 360-degree camera.

Why is it important for the Indian market?

Pre-booking of this car in Vietnam is going to start from 27 May 2026 and its starting price there has been kept at 999 million Vietnamese Dong (about 33,000 US dollars). This launch is important for the Indian market because Vinfast is rapidly starting its manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi (Tuticorin), Tamil Nadu in India. The company is working on plans to launch several global models through CBU and CKD routes to establish its strong presence in the Indian market, with the VF8 also likely to be launched on Indian roads as a premium option.
