New Year celebrations in New Zealand, Japan and Australia, enthusiasm among people
Excitement about the arrival of 2026 is at its peak across the world. In India where the new year is going to start at midnight. In many parts of the world, people have already welcomed 2026. Due to different time zones, the new year starts at a different time in every country. In this sequence, some islands and countries of the Pacific Ocean region first enter the New Year and then this celebration gradually spreads all over the world.
New Year’s celebration was first celebrated in Kiribati
For the first time in the world, 2026 started in Kiritimati (Christmas Island) of Kiribati. This island is located very close to the International Date Line, due to which the New Year comes first here. The clock struck 12 here about eight and a half hours before India and people welcomed the New Year with traditional music, dance and mass events. Kiribati is a group of many small islands, where despite limited resources, the joy of New Year is clearly visible.
Sky lit up with fireworks in New Zealand
After Kiribati, 2026 started in New Zealand. Grand fireworks were organized around the famous Sky Tower in the capital Auckland. Despite the rain, people’s enthusiasm did not diminish and thousands of people were seen gathering on the streets and public places to celebrate the New Year. The sky lit up with colorful lights and the New Year was welcomed with music.
Sydney becomes the center of celebration in Australia
New Year has started in Australia also. The fireworks that take place around the Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House are famous throughout the world. As soon as the clock struck 12, a wonderful sight of lights and colors was seen in the entire area. Lakhs of people were present on the streets and beaches to watch the event, while many people watched it through TV and digital platforms.
Welcome with tradition in Japan
In Japan, the New Year is welcomed with religious and cultural traditions. The night of 31st December is called ‘Omisoka’, which is considered very sacred. On this occasion, big bells are rung 108 times in Buddhist temples, which is considered a symbol of man’s freedom from 108 worldly desires.
Simple celebration in Korean countries
2026 has also started in South and North Korea. Here, instead of fireworks, the New Year was celebrated in traditional and family ways. People were seen gathering and praying for peace, happiness and prosperity for the coming year.
