New Year’s celebration in Switzerland turns into mourning: Explosion in bar in Crans-Montana, many people killed

According to information shared by the Swiss police, an explosion occurred in a bar in the expensive alpine ski resort town of Crans-Montana. Many people were killed and some were injured in this blast. “There has been an explosion whose cause is unknown. Several people were killed and many injured,” said Gaetan Lathien, a police spokesman in the Valais canton in southwestern Switzerland. Local media reports claim that at least 40 people died in the fire.

A police spokesman said the blast occurred at a bar called Le Constellation at around 1:30 a.m. local time. This bar is quite famous among tourists. At the time of the accident, people were gathered here to celebrate the New Year. A police spokesman said, “Most of the dead are believed to be tourists who had come to Crans-Montana during the holiday season. There were more than a hundred people in the bar at the time of the blast. We are still at the beginning of our investigation. This is an internationally famous ski resort with a lot of tourists.”

Local media reports claim that at least 40 people died in the fire. Local media outlet Blick reported that authorities have also imposed a no-fly zone over Cross-Montana as part of rescue and investigation efforts. Police officials said that there were more than 100 people inside the bar at the time of the blast. Swiss broadcaster RTS reported that the blast occurred in the basement of the bar, which has a total capacity of about 400 people.

Videos widely shared on social media platforms showed a thick plume of smoke rising from the bar immediately after the incident, showing the scale of the blaze and subsequent fire. According to American media, police did not provide the exact number of deaths and injuries, nor did they provide further information about the cause of the fire. The area is known for high-end holiday resorts.

The special reason for this is that Crans-Montana is located on the south-facing plateau in the Rhône Valley.
