New Year’s Eve Security Alert: Two Arrested With 150 kg Explosives in Rajasthan’s Tonk
A major security alert ahead of New Year celebrations was reported in Rajasthan’s Tonk district after police arrested two individuals and seized around 150 kg of explosive material from their vehicle on Wednesday.
According to officials, the operation was carried out by the District Special Team (DST) of Tonk police following specific intelligence inputs.
Explosives Hidden in Fertiliser Sacks
The arrested persons have been identified as Surendra Patwa and Surendra Mochi, both residents of Bundi district. Police said the suspects were intercepted in the Baroni police station area, where a search of their car led to the recovery of ammonium nitrate concealed in sacks of urea fertiliser.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Mrityunjay Mishra said the accused were allegedly transporting the explosive material from Bundi to Tonk for supply.
Additional Seizures Raise Concern
Apart from ammonium nitrate, police also seized:
200 cartridges
Six bundles of safety fuse wire, measuring approximately 1,100 metres
The vehicle used for transportation
Officials said the swift action helped prevent a potential threat during the sensitive New Year period.
Investigation Underway
Police are currently questioning the accused and conducting a detailed investigation to determine the source, intended use, and possible links of the seized explosive materials. Authorities are also examining whether the consignment was meant for illegal activities, including unlawful mining or other criminal operations.
