Star players returned after recovering from injury
Fast bowlers Matt Fisher, Will O’Rourke and Blair Tickner were out of the team due to long-term injuries. Now all three players are fit and have joined the team. O’Rourke has returned to the ODI team after recovering from a back injury, while Fisher has got a place in the T20 team. Blair Tickner has recovered from an ankle injury and has joined the team in both formats.
Team head coach Rob Walter expressed happiness over the return of the players and said that these players had been working hard for the last few months and their return is very important for the team. He told that due to continuous cricket, it is necessary to have strong bench strength.
Comeback on the basis of domestic performance
Off-spin all-rounder Dean Foxcroft has also returned to the team. He performed brilliantly in domestic cricket and took his team to the final by scoring the fourth highest runs in the Ford Trophy. His return will prove important for the balance of the team.
Captaincy and other players
Test captain Tom Latham will lead the team in this tour, as regular white-ball captain Mitchell Santner is busy with Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Apart from this, players like Mohammad Abbas, Aditya Ashok, Christian Clarke and Ben Sears will directly join this squad from the New Zealand A team’s tour of Sri Lanka.
The team will leave for Bangladesh on 13 April, while the first ODI match will be played from 17 April. On this tour, all eyes will be on the new and balanced team of New Zealand, which will enter the field with the intention of performing well in Bangladesh.
