New Zealand appoint all-rounder Mitchell Santner as white-ball captain
New Delhi: Mitchell Santner has been appointed New Zealand’s new white-ball captain on December 18. He takes over the role from Kane Williamson, who stepped down after the team’s early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA & West Indies.
The all-rounder has previously led New Zealand in 24 T20I matches and four ODI matches but his first series in the full-time role will be against Sri Lanka from December 28. The first major event in his captaincy will be the 2025 Champions Trophy in February before the focus shifts to building to the 2026 T20 World Cup.
