Kane Williamson Retirement: Kane Williamson, the 35-year-old right-handed batsman of the New Zealand cricket team, has announced his retirement. Williamson has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. Information about this has been shared from the official X account of New Zealand Cricket Board (BLACKCAPS). Kane Williamson made his debut for New Zealand in 2010. He has now ended his 16 year long international career.
Kane Williamson created a stir for the New Zealand cricket team in all three formats, Test, ODI and T20. Along with this, Williamson has shown his talent in all the cricket leagues of the country and the world including the Indian Premier League (IPL). Williamson further said, ‘I thought about it for some time, but in the last few days it has become clear that now is the right time. I have always felt a strong desire and hunger for international cricket and I am proud of the fact that I have given my all in every match I have played for New Zealand. Anything less than this would not be fair to continue and I feel fortunate to leave on my own terms. I am leaving with hope for the progress of this group. There is a lot of talent in this New Zealand team and a true desire to do something special.
How was Williamson’s cricket career?
Williamson, 35, is New Zealand’s all-time highest international run-scorer with 19,346 runs, which includes 48 centuries and 6 double centuries. Williamson also captained New Zealand in all three formats during the golden period from 2016-2024. He had made it to two ICC World Cup finals and three semi-finals as captain. New Zealand won the first ICC World Test Championship in 2021 under his captaincy.
