New Zealand’s central contract announced, Conway returns after 2 years, know who is in the list?
The duration of this new contract of New Zealand Cricket will be from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027. The special thing is that former captain Kane Williamson will no longer be a part of this list, because he retired from international cricket. Williamson was on casual contract for the last one year.
Conway’s return after two years
34-year-old Devon Conway was playing on a casual contract for the last two years. He has now made himself available for all international fixtures during the upcoming contract period, after which he has been included in the central contract again.
New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said that Conway has been an important player of the team in all three formats for a long time. He said that there are many big and exciting challenges facing the team in the coming times, in such a situation, the return of an experienced player like Conway to the central contract is a great strength for the team.
Awarded for excellent performance
Fast bowler Blair Tickner was rewarded for his recent excellent performance. He has made a consistent impact in all three formats in the last few months. Tickner has taken four or more wickets five times in his last 8 international innings. He also recorded the first five-wicket haul of his career in the one-off Test against Ireland at Stormont last month.
Coach Rob Walter praised Tickner, saying that he has continued to improve his game and has performed well in every role for the team. New Zealand have a lot of red-ball cricket to play in the coming 12 months, so their central contract is vital to maintaining depth in the bowling attack.
Foulkes and Hay save place
Jack Foulkes and Mitchell Hay, who got central contracts for the first time last year, have also retained their places. Both players have represented New Zealand in all three formats in the last 12 months. NZC said that discussions regarding casual contracts are still ongoing and a separate announcement in this regard will be made in the next few weeks.
New Zealand’s centrally contracted players: Tom Blundell, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zac Foulkes, Mitchell Hay, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Will O’Rourke, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ben Sears, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, Will Young.
