Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes set to be out for two months — reports

Tenth-placed Newcastle United is set to have its captain Bruno Guimaraes ruled out of action for two months, dealing a blow to the Magpies’ bid to secure a European spot.

The Brazilian midfielder was substituted off in stoppage time of the second half during the side’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur after he seemed to pick up an injury. Lewis Hall replaced him on the field.

According to ESPN Brasil, Guimaraes suffered a serious muscle injury.

He was not named in Newcastle’s squad for its FA Cup fourth round clash against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The 28-year-old has featured in 23 league matches this season, having 13 goal contributions across them.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle has a tough string of fixtures coming up, including clashes against Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea, apart from a two-legged UEFA Champions League playoff against Qarabag FK.
