News – Emphasis on transparency in port operations, DG Shipping order issued

New Delhi. Amidst the ongoing tension in West Asia, India’s Directorate General of Shipping has instructed all the ports of the country. He has said that the full benefits of concessions given to exporters stranded in the Persian Gulf region should be extended in a transparent manner. The circular issued said that in many cases, the concessions given by port authorities such as detention charges, ground rent and reefer plug-in fees are not reaching the exporters equally. In such a situation, it has now been made mandatory to extend these concessions to the exporters through the concerned stakeholders, such as freight forwarders and NVOCCs, in a direct and transparent manner.

What responsibility was given to the port authorities?
