It has been decided to develop Akhara sites to preserve and promote the ancient culture of villages in the tribal areas of the state, such as traditional arts, folk tales and rituals. For this purpose, a provision of Rs 2 crore 50 lakh has also been made in the budget for this scheme in the financial year 2025-26.

Preservation of tribal culture and traditions

With the aim of encouraging the tribal culture, traditions and rituals of the state, the Chhattisgarh government is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda on 15th November with full enthusiasm and respect under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai. Last year, on the occasion of Tribal Pride Day organized at the Science College Ground in Raipur, Chief Minister Sai’s pledge to encourage the Baiga-Guniya-Sirha-Hathjod of the state and to develop the worship and cultural places of the tribal community under the Akhra Development Scheme is definitely a meaningful initiative in the direction of preserving and promoting the culture of the tribal people.

Along with this, to provide assistance to the tribal cultural groups of the state, a provision has been made to give Rs 10,000 per group as a grant for purchasing cultural instruments. 1180 cultural groups have been benefited from this scheme in the last 2 years. Under this scheme, in the last two years, approval of Rs 15 crore 97 lakh 50 thousand has been given for eight hundred Devgudis.

Under the Chief Minister Adivasi Param Samman Nidhi Yojana, it has been started with the aim of preserving the culture and traditions of the tribals and transferring these festivals and festivals in their original form to the coming generations, while recording of cultural traditions has also been started. For this, Rs 10,000 is being provided to each Gram Panchayat. In these 2 years, assistance worth Rs 11 crore 26 lakh 60 thousand has been provided to 11266 gram panchayats.

This year, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dharti Aba Birsamunda, on November 20 last month, in the land of Ambikapur, President Smt. Draupadi Murmu called upon the people of the tribal community of the state to remember the bravery of the tribal leaders and follow their path. This is a matter of pride for Chhattisgarh.

It is noteworthy that on the 150th birth anniversary of Dharti Aba Birsa Munda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called from Jamui, Bihar on 15th November to preserve the contribution of the country’s tribal leaders and freedom fighters with respect. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave a new direction to the development of this community by forming a separate ministry for the welfare of the tribal community.

Prime Minister Modi has launched two biggest schemes in the country for the upliftment of the tribal community. A budget provision of Rs 24,000 crore has been made under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana and Rs 80,000 crore for the Dharti Aaba Tribal Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, due to which rapid development of basic facilities and work for the betterment of the tribes is being done in the tribal areas. To provide benefits of both these schemes to the tribal society in the state, more than 1.5 lakh Adi Karmayogi have been prepared in the state.

On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai announced Chief Minister Samman Nidhi for the Baiga, Gunia, Sirha people belonging to the tribal community of Chhattisgarh state. Under this, they will be given financial assistance of Rs 5,000 per year. The Chief Minister has taken the notable initiative of starting Akhara Nirman Vikas Yojana for religious and auspicious work in tribal villages and installing statues of martyrs of the tribal community at identified places. With this, the government has won the trust of the tribal society and is proving to be a milestone in the direction of preserving and promoting the culture and traditions of the tribes.

The plan led by Chief Minister Sai to honor the personalities of the tribal community of Chhattisgarh, the martyrs of the tribal rebellion in the state and the families of freedom fighters is also a remarkable step in the honor of the tribes. Along with this, exemplary work has been done by taking steps towards documentation to enhance the knowledge of tribal folk arts and oral traditions of the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concern for the development and respect of the tribal community is reflected in the Chief Minister’s Akhara Development Announcement. The Prime Minister has worried about the development of every backward class of the country in his resolution of a developed India by 2047. Among these, upliftment of tribal society is a priority. The result of this visionary thinking is that today the standard of living of the people of the tribal community is improving through the Dharti Aaba Tribal Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan and PM Janman Yojana launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It is also worth mentioning here that on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched several important projects costing Rs 6600 crore for the development and expansion of basic facilities in remote rural areas of the country. Due to this, five times the budget is being spent for the welfare of the tribal areas and tribal communities of the country. Ten years ago its budget was only Rs 25,000 crore, which has now increased to Rs 1,25,000 crore.

The Prime Minister has said that in history the people of the tribal community did not get the place to which they were entitled. Tribal society is the one which transformed the prince into a dignified man, Lord Ram. This society has increased the value of the culture and tradition of the country. Tribal society is a society that worships the sun, air, trees, plants and mountains. Together we will make the ideas of the tribal society the basis of the country’s progress.
