Government’s ultimatum amid Indigo controversy: Arbitrary fare should not be charged from passengers.
New Delhi. The Civil Aviation Ministry has taken serious note of the concerns regarding unusually high airfares being charged by some airlines in the wake of the IndiGo crisis. The central government on Saturday issued instructions to all airlines not to charge passengers more fare than the prescribed limit. The government has said that action will be taken if this is done.
Huge increase in air fares
Due to problems in the operation of Indigo, passengers are facing many problems. Due to this, a huge increase in air fares has also been recorded. On behalf of the Ministry, it has been said that in order to protect the passengers from any kind of profiteering, the Ministry has exercised its regulatory powers to ensure fair and reasonable fares on all the affected routes.
‘Prescribed fare limit will have to be strictly followed’: Ministry
The Central Government has informed that an official instruction has been issued to all the airlines in which strict adherence to the prescribed fare limit has now been made mandatory. According to the ministry’s statement, these limits will remain in place until the situation becomes completely stable. The ministry said the objective of this directive is to maintain pricing discipline in the market, prevent any exploitation of distressed travelers and ensure that citizens who need to travel urgently – including senior citizens, students and patients – do not face financial hardship during this period.
Indigo is the king of domestic flights
Indigo is the largest airline in the country in terms of domestic flights. Talking about the domestic flights market, Indigo has captured about 60 percent of the market. More than 2000 flights have been canceled by Indigo in the last five days. Due to this, passengers are facing many problems ranging from increased fares to other problems.
