Raipur : Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has said that declaring Kopra Reservoir in Bilaspur district as the first Ramsar site of Chhattisgarh is a matter of immense pride and honor for the entire state. This achievement symbolizes global recognition of the state’s rich biodiversity, diverse bird habitats and sustainable water-conservation efforts.
Biodiversity conservation and water conservation efforts received global recognition
Chief Minister Sai expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the joint efforts of the State Wetland Authority, environmental experts, researchers and local communities for this important achievement. He said that with the coordinated cooperation of everyone, Kopra Reservoir could meet international standards and Chhattisgarh got this historical identity.
The Chief Minister said that getting Ramsar status for Kopra Reservoir is an important and inspiring progress towards the goal of declaring 20 wetlands of the state as Ramsar sites by the year 2030 under “Chhattisgarh Anjor Vision 2047”. The achievement also reinforces the state’s environment-protection policy and long-term vision.
Chief Minister Sai said that this global recognition will promote eco-tourism in the state, which will create new local employment opportunities. Besides, it will further strengthen public awareness towards wetland conservation and will prove to be a milestone in the conservation of natural resources for future generations.
The Chief Minister appealed to the people of the state to play an active role in the protection, conservation and promotion of this invaluable natural heritage.
