Kanpur development will get new direction, formation of 6 zones in KDA
Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) has changed the number of its zones after 51 years in view of the rapid expansion of the city and increasing population. Earlier there were only four zones in the KDA area, which have now been increased to six on the lines of the Municipal Corporation. Zone-1 and Zone-2 have been divided into two parts each, while Zone-3 and Zone-4 have been kept the same. Officers have been deployed in all six zones, so that the problems of the general public can be resolved quickly.
KDA Vice President Madan Singh Garjyal said that small and clearly divided zones will improve monitoring of local problems and will also increase the speed of solution. At present about 41 lakh citizens live under the jurisdiction of KDA. According to Garjyal, creation of small zones will not only speed up the implementation of schemes but will also help in redressal of public complaints more effectively than before. He said that a new map has also been prepared by clearly marking the boundaries of each zone and the schemes under it.
Which areas in which zone?
Zone-1A: Stretching from Prayagraj Road to Ganga Barrage and up to the southern KDA border, this area covers densely populated areas like Chakeri, Ashiana, Krishna Nagar, Jajmau, Pokharpur, Birhana Road, Sisamau, Gutaiya and Khalasi Line.
Zone-1B: This stretch from Rawatpur Square towards Kannauj Road and Unnao includes many major residential schemes including Old Kanpur, Deendayal Nagar, Signature City, Lakhanpur, Indira Nagar and KDA Green.
Zone-2A: Extending from Kalyanpur-Panki Road to Kanpur Dehat and Jhima, this area includes schemes like Gautam Vihar, Jawaharpuram, Ratanpur, Shatabdi Nagar, Mandakini Enclave and Mahavir Nagar Extension.
Zone-2B: Extending from Kalyanpur-Panki Road to the northern part of Jhansi Railway Line, this zone includes important areas like Kalpi Nagar, Ispat Nagar, Vyapar Nagar, Panki, Kakadev, Vijay Nagar and Dadanagar.
Zone-3: This zone, extending from the southern part of Jhansi railway line to Pandu River and Hamirpur Road, includes areas like Gujaini, Ambedkar Nagar, Ravidaspuram, Ratanlal Nagar and Juhi.
Zone-4: Stretching from Opium Kothi to Prayagraj Road and the western part of Hamirpur Road, this area covers major schemes like Transport Nagar, Kidwai Nagar, Babupurwa, Sujatganj, Naubasta and Swarn Jayanti Vihar.
KDA was established in the year 1974 with the objective of planned development of Kanpur. This is considered to be the biggest administrative reorganization since then. Two zones—Zone-1 and Zone-2—have been divided into two parts each, while Zone-3 and Zone-4 have been kept as they are. KDA says that with this major restructuring, while the pace of development work will increase, it will also be possible to solve the problems faced by people on a daily basis in less time.
