Maheshwar election controversy: Game of seat and voting, order of suspension on officials
Everyone knows what the election process is generally. After a fixed term, candidates stand on the vacant seat. Voters vote. The candidate who gets the most votes wins. A strange case has come to light from Maheshwar in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh. Here elections were held in a ward, the candidate won, later it is known that in which ward the elections were to be held. Instead of getting it done there, it was done in another ward.
What is the whole matter?
Actually, after the death of Mohan Makwane, member of Ward No. 7 of Maheshwar Janpad Panchayat, by-election was to be held there. Panchayat office employees, being careless, declared ward number 9 as vacant instead of ward number 7, this report was forwarded. Even after this, election notification for ward number 9 was issued without any cross verification.
Celebration fades after victory
After the release of election notification, BJP candidate Abhay Singh Baria filed nomination from ward number 9. Apart from him, no other candidate stood. For this reason he was elected unopposed. The winning candidate also celebrated but his victory was ruined when the mistake was discovered when the Tehsildar and the Returning Officer matched the documents.
District Panchayat CEO suspended
