NHAI’s masterplan to deal with the jam of Dwarka Expressway, preparations for permanent solution started
News of relief for the drivers troubled by the daily heavy traffic jams on the Dwarka Expressway connecting Delhi-Gurugram. NHAI has started work towards finding a permanent solution to the problem of traffic jam on the expressway. Under this, a consultant will soon be appointed, who will do the technical study of the entire route. The consultant will analyze the existing deficiencies, traffic pressure and bottlenecks of the expressway. After this, suggestions will be given for necessary structural changes and improvements to reduce traffic jams.
A large number of people from areas like Dwarka, Palam, Uttam Nagar and Najafgarh of North and West Delhi commute to Gurugram daily for jobs and business. Apart from this, thousands of vehicles from surrounding districts of Haryana also use this route. Due to continuously increasing traffic pressure, there are long jams on the expressway, due to which the passengers are wasting about 40 to 50 minutes of extra time every day. The situation becomes more serious during peak hours. In view of this problem, NHAI has taken steps towards finding a permanent solution to the jam.
Problems increasing due to engineering flaws
Regarding the severe traffic jams that occur daily, people have now cited engineering flaws as the main reason for it. Passengers say that due to lack of design of expressway and traffic merging system, there are long traffic jams every day. According to local people and regular travelers, when vehicles going towards Gurugram pass through the tunnel, the traffic coming from NH-48 also joins at the same place. The pressure of vehicles coming from Dhaula Kuan towards Rajokri Road is so high that the vehicles coming out of the tunnel remain stuck for a long time.
People say that the exit route from the tunnel should have been sufficiently open and organized, but a blockage-like situation is created at the existing merging point. For this reason, there is a traffic jam of several kilometers long during peak hours. Due to this jam, 40 to 50 minutes of extra time is being lost every day, due to which the problems of office goers are continuously increasing.
Petrol and diesel expenses increasing daily
The consumption of petrol and diesel increases due to vehicles crawling for long periods and frequent stopping. People say that due to the jam they have to spend around Rs 100 to 120 extra fuel every day. This additional expenditure reaches around Rs 2500 to Rs 3000 in a month, due to which the financial burden on working people and people who travel daily is increasing.
Union Minister of State himself inspected
Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra himself along with his team inspected the spot during peak hours and took stock of the situation. After inspection, he admitted that the problem of jam on the expressway is very serious. He himself visited the spot and observed the traffic situation and has instructed NHAI to take immediate action for a permanent solution to this problem. The help of a consultant will be taken to study the existing structure, traffic pressure and technical deficiencies of the expressway. On the basis of this, work will be started on necessary structural reforms to reduce the jam.
