NIA arrests key ULFA(I) suspect in IED planting case across Assam

Latest News :- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a key accused of the United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I) in connection with the IED bomb blasts in various parts of Assam. It is reported that NIA has arrested a person named Girish Barua alias Gautam Barua when he was hiding in the suburbs of Bengaluru. A statement issued by the NIA said, “The NIA had registered a case in September in connection with the planting of explosives across Assam by the banned terrorist organization ULFA as part of the armed conflict against India's Independence Day celebrations.

The accused was a member of ULFA-I. On the orders of the top leadership of the organization, he had planted IEDs in many areas of North Lakhimpur district of Assam. While the suspect was hiding in Bengaluru, he was arrested on September 25 and produced before the special NIA court there. The court later remanded him in transit and produced him before a special NIA court in Guwahati, Assam. The case is still under investigation.
