Indian equity benchmarks ended sharply lower on Friday, February 27, 2026 (IST), with broad-based selling dragging key indices into the red. The NIFTY 50 closed at 25,178.65, down 317.90 points or 1.25%, while the SENSEX settled at 81,287.19, declining 961.42 points or 1.17%. Bank stocks also remained under pressure, with BANKNIFTY falling 1.08% to 60,529.00. The MIDCPNIFTY index dropped 1.18% to close at 13,491.45.
Despite the weak market sentiment, a few NIFTY 50 constituents managed to end the session in positive territory.
Trent emerged as one of the top gainers, closing at ₹3,906.60, up 1.3% for the day.
HCL Technologies also advanced, settling at ₹1,389.50, marking a 1.2% gain at close.
Infosys ended higher at ₹1,298.50, registering a 0.7% rise.
Apollo Hospitals Enterprise closed at ₹7,823.50, up 0.6% by the end of the session.
