Initially Nimrat was known for AIDS, then she entered the world of acting by doing some music videos. But he got real recognition when he worked with Irrfan Khan in the film “The Lunchbox”.

Nimrat Kaur made her Bollywood debut in 2012 with the film ‘Peddlers’. In an old interview given to Pinkvilla, Nimrat had recalled her difficulties. He said, ‘After coming to Mumbai, there were many ups and downs in my life. I came here with the little money I had earned from working in Delhi. Took the first 6-7 months from those savings only. But the problem was that I had got the photographs done, but had no idea what to do next. Where to go? How to start?

She further says that she started searching for the names of production houses and agencies on the internet. I thought that I would just go to him and give him the photo, then let’s see what happens. I gave my pictures to hundreds of agencies and banners. She herself reached those places on foot, by train, bus or auto. At that time there was not even enough money to book a cab. Everything seemed so expensive in Mumbai that it became difficult to survive.

The most emotional part comes when Nimrat talks about talking to her mother. At that time even mobile calls were very expensive for them. So she used to go to PCO (Public Call Office). From there she would call her mother and cry for hours. I felt very bad, scared. All this was very difficult and scary. Nimrat used to become victim of breakdown many times, but still did not give up.

Why doesn’t Nimrat want to marry?

Now let’s talk about Nimrat’s personal life. Nimrat is still unmarried at the age of 41, and she has taken this decision herself. But in the society, especially for girls, it is difficult to understand being unmarried. Nimrat has also had to face a lot of pressure and taunts for marriage throughout her career. Nimrat spoke openly in the interview she gave to News18 Shosha last year. He said, ‘I have faced questions about marriage. Every girl has to face this. Before ‘The Lunchbox’ came, my well-wishers and people close to me did not take me seriously. They used to say that now is the time for marriage.

But everything changed after ‘The Lunchbox’. Working with a big actor like Irrfan made him believe what I could do. The film itself brought me respect. She further says that people do this because of old thinking, and they cannot be blamed for this. But Nimrat raises questions about whether marriage is the only way for a woman to settle down? He said, ‘As soon as there is even a little problem in your career, you are not getting enough money, or you are not at the point where you should be, you are immediately told to get married and settle down. Like I am unsettled before marriage.

But I have seen that many marriages are just for show, and in them people remain most troubled and restless. Nimrat believes that it is better to be happy alone rather than getting tied up in a sham marriage. She says that marriage should happen when the right person is found and the time is right. Till then she wants to focus on herself and her career. This vision of hers is becoming an inspiration for many women today.
