New Delhi: Nirjala Ekadashi is considered to have special significance in Hindu religion. This Ekadashi falling in Jyeshtha Shukla Paksha is considered the best among all Ekadashis. This year the fast of Nirjala Ekadashi is being observed on 25 June 2026, Thursday. It is believed that by observing this fast with devotion and regularly, one gets the same virtue as all the Ekadashis of the year.
Importance of Nirjala Ekadashi
Nirjala Ekadashi is also called Bhimseni Ekadashi. According to religious beliefs, Mahabali Bhima also observed this fast. Devotees worship Lord Vishnu on this day and pray for happiness, prosperity and salvation.

This year Ekadashi tithi started on 24 June 2026 at 8:09 pm and will end on 25 June 2026 at 9:14 pm. According to Udaya Tithi, the fast is being observed on 25th June. The fast will be broken on Friday, June 26, 2026, between 5:25 am to 8:13 am.
method of worship
On the day of Nirjala Ekadashi, take bath in the morning and wear clean and yellow clothes. After this, bathe the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu with Ganga water and Panchamrit. Offer sandalwood, Akshat, yellow flowers and basil leaves to God. Offer sugar candy, fruits and other satvik items. Chanting the mantra “Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya” throughout the day is considered auspicious. Besides, bhajan-kirtan and recitation of religious texts can also be done.

Avoid anger, ego and harsh words during the fast. Donate water and food to the needy. Providing water for animals and birds is also considered virtuous. Tulsi leaves should not be plucked on the day of Ekadashi, hence keep Tulsi group prepared in advance for worship.
