It is impossible to return to old petrol (E10)

In view of the concerns of the general public, when the Union Minister was asked whether low ethanol (E10) petrol would again be available at petrol pumps? Responding to this, he said that when the target of making E20 fuel available in every corner of the country has been achieved, it is now impossible to step back. Apart from this, he said that the final decision on giving different mixing options lies with the Petroleum Ministry.

Claims of engine failure declared rumor

The Union Minister termed the news circulating on social media about vehicle engines breaking down and parts melting as misleading and rumours. He challenged and said that till now no proven case of vehicle damage due to ethanol has come to light in the country. Advice given on complaints of low mileage

Gadkari said that the calorific value of ethanol is slightly less, which may make a slight difference on the highway, but in urban areas the mileage remains the same as petrol. He advised vehicle owners to get the mileage checked from the machines at the service centers instead of just guessing. He also assured that if any defect is indeed proven to be caused by ethanol, then the vehicle manufacturing companies will be responsible for it under their warranty.

Clarification given on allegations of conflict of interest

Gadkari, while rejecting the allegations of his own personal interest in promoting blending fuel and related to his sons’ business, said that the share of his sons’ factory in the total ethanol production of the country is less than 0.5%, which is only 10% of his sons’ total business. He reiterated that he supports biofuels, green hydrogen and electric vehicles for the welfare of the country so that the dependence on crude oil imports can be reduced and the country can be freed from pollution.
