Party workers and supporters did not like Nitish Kumar’s departure from Bihar, took such a big step
The stir in Bihar politics intensified on Thursday when Janata Dal (U) workers got angry after the news of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar going to Rajya Sabha. There was an atmosphere of commotion, sloganeering and vandalism throughout the day in the party’s state office located in the capital Patna.
Hundreds of workers gathered at the JDU headquarters located at Veerchand Patel Path and started raising emotional slogans protesting against the decision of the Chief Minister. Many workers were seen saying that Nitish Kumar should not leave Bihar and go to Parliament.
Party office echoed with slogans of ‘Nitish is from Bihar’
As soon as the news spread that Janata Dal United leader Nitish Kumar has decided to go to Rajya Sabha, uneasiness increased among the party supporters. A large number of workers started reaching the party headquarters from around 12 noon.
These slogans started resonating
Slogans like “Nitish Kumar is from Bihar”, “We will not let him go anywhere” and “We will give our lives but will not let Nitish go” started echoing in the office premises. The workers said that they had struggled for years to make Nitish Kumar the Chief Minister and now he would not be allowed to leave the politics of the state.
Demolition and commotion during the demonstration
Amidst the sloganeering, some workers became angry and started vandalizing the office premises. The protesters overturned the furniture kept inside, broke tables and chairs and tore posters and banners.
During this, the workers also threw away the utensils and plates kept there. It is being told that a banquet was arranged in the office, which was kept for the workers after the nomination by Union Minister of State Ramnath Thakur. The angry mob also damaged the buffet counter.
Anger also erupted on senior party leaders
During the demonstration, the anger of the workers was also visible on some senior leaders of the party. Many supporters raised slogans against Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Working President Sanjay Jha and Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary.
The protesters alleged that some party leaders were trying to weaken the organization. During this time, an incident of scuffle with Legislative Councilor Sanjay Kumar alias Gandhiji also came to light.
State President also had to face opposition
After receiving information about the uproar, JDU state president Umesh Kushwaha reached the party office. But the anger of the workers present there did not subside even in front of him.
Some protesters lay down in front of his car and started protesting. With the help of security personnel, somehow he was taken inside the office. After reaching inside, he tried to convince the workers and said that his feelings would be conveyed to the Chief Minister.
Demonstration outside Chief Minister’s residence also
A similar demonstration was seen outside the Chief Minister’s residence also. A large number of workers had gathered there since morning. Supporters from many districts including Patna, Nalanda and Begusarai were raising slogans in support of Nitish Kumar.
The police kept trying repeatedly to disperse the crowd, but after some time the workers again reached there and started protesting. During this time, the car of a minister was also stopped by the protesters, who was taken out safely after the police intervened.
Challenging situation for party leadership
This resentment that has arisen within JDU after the news of Nitish Kumar going to Rajya Sabha seems to be a challenge for the party leadership. At present, senior party leaders are trying to handle the situation and efforts are on to pacify the workers.
Political analysts believe that in the coming days this issue may become a topic of greater discussion in the politics of Bihar.
