In 2023, he was made the state president of BJP and in 2024, after the formation of the NDA government, he was made the Deputy CM. Political analysts believe that Samrat Chaudhary is a strong contender from the point of view of caste equations also.
2. Dilip Kumar Jaiswal
Dilip Jaiswal is also in the race for the post of Chief Minister. Presently he is the Minister of Industry and Road Construction in the Government of Bihar. He has a strong hold in the party organization.
3. Nityanand Rai
Nityanand Rai is also considered among the big contenders. Nityanand Rai, who has been a former state president, has a good hold among the backward classes. Also, he is considered close to Amit Shah.
4. Sanjeev Chaurasia
Sanjeev Chaurasia is also said to be in the race for the post of Chief Minister. He has a strong hold in the Brahmin community and also fits into the EBC equation.
5. Prem Kumar
Prem Kumar is also involved in the CM race. Prem Kumar, who comes from the EBC community, is considered an educated and balanced leader, which can go in his favor.

- Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav reacted sharply to this development. He alleged that Nitish Kumar has been sent to Rajya Sabha under pressure from BJP.
- Tejashwi Yadav said that during the elections, NDA leaders had talked about Nitish Kumar’s leadership for 25-30 years, but now a sudden change is being made. He raised the question that if changes were to be made then why was it not told before the elections.
- Tejashwi cornered the government on the issues of unemployment, migration and development. He said that the government is more concerned with saving power than with public issues and the condition of Bihar is continuously worsening.
- Regarding TRE-4 recruitment, Tejashwi Yadav said that suggestions were given earlier also but the government did not take any concrete action. He sarcastically said that the government is more concerned about the chair than Bihar.
- The Leader of Opposition said that the public had given the mandate for something else, but someone else is being made the Chief Minister. He also alleged that Nitish Kumar had to face uncomfortable situations in public on several occasions.
What response did the government give on Tejashwi Yadav’s salary dispute?
Tejashwi Yadav had earlier claimed that he had not received his salary. According to the government, the salary for the period from 15 November 2025 to 2 December 2025 was passed on 18 March 2026. Salary from December 2025 to March 2026 will be deposited on 10 April 2026. It was approved at 11:28 am. Now the outstanding salary of Tejashwi Yadav has been completely cleared.
