First the ruckus in Bihar, now the threat from Pakistan!

Remember that video of Nitish Kumar, when he himself pulled the veil of a Muslim woman doctor wearing hijab on stage? At first the opposition took it under wraps, raising questions on women’s respect and religious freedom. But now the matter has become international. Pakistani don Shahzad Bhatti, hiding in Dubai, has released a video asking Nitish Kumar to apologize publicly. Bhatti threatened, “Apologise or else don’t say later that no warning was given.”

What is the whole hijab scandal?

On December 15, 2025, Nitish Kumar was distributing appointment letters to newly appointed AYUSH doctors at Samvad Bhawan in Patna. When Dr. Nusrat Parveen came on stage wearing hijab, Nitish asked, “What is this?” The doctor politely replied, “It is hijab, sir.” What happened next, Nitish himself extended his hand and pulled the hijab and removed it. In the video, Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary was seen pulling his sleeve, as if trying to stop him. The female doctor became very uncomfortable and some people present in the hall were also seen laughing. After this the video went viral and there was political upheaval in Bihar. The opposition called it an attack on women’s dignity and religious freedom.
