The Indian cricket team has been hit with a major blow as all-rounder Nitish Reddy has been ruled out of the upcoming Ireland and England tour due to a quadriceps injury.
He sustained the injury during the recently concluded ODI series against Afghanistan. Reddy, who was supposed to replace the void left by Hardik Pandya, sustained a niggle and is not in condition to bowl 10 overs in ODIs.
“Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the Ireland series. The MRI has revealed swelling with fibre disruption in the left quadriceps. He has been asked to report at COE for further assessment,” said a statement.
It is stated that the all-rounder has to be rested for at least four weeks before starting his rehabilitation. It could take time before his return to play.
The 23-year old have made 10 tests, 6 ODI and 4 T20Is for India. He also played two ODIs against Afghanistan while missing the second game in Lucknow.
Despite India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel saying the injury didn’t look serious, it has now taken a far more serious turn.
Nitish Reddy’s injury is believed that increase in bowling speed from 120 kmph to mid-130 kmph, which is making his body unable to withstand a sudden uptick in pace.
Nitish Reddy has been fity with string of fitness concerns which has hit his progress over the past year. Hence, he bowled only five overs in 13 matches of the IPL 2025 season.
He was also ruled out of India’s test tour of England due to a knee injury. During the recent IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling coach James Franklin spoke about Nitish Reddy’s progress to improve his fitness, noting that the all-rounder had increased both his bowling workload and pace.
However, this recent injury has put a stop to his momentum. The all-rounder is expected to report to BCCI‘s Centre of Excellence (CoE) to determine the extent of injury and provide clarity on his recovery timeline.
The T20I series against Ireland is set to begin on June 26 at Stormont Cricket StadiumBelfast.
