The “Bolega Kharar, Badlega Kharar” foot march, being led by Shiromani Akali Dal Kharar constituency in-charge Ravinder Singh Kheda, entered its 16th day on Tuesday, during which Wards No. 24 and 25 of the constituency were covered.
The march commenced from Gate No. 2 of the Civil Hospital and passed through Jashan Dairy, Ranjit Nagar, Henderson School, Hospital Road, Puppy General Store, Surjit Dairy and Randhawa Road, before concluding at NRI Enclave.
In a significant development, former Dera Bassi MLA NK Sharma, who is currently serving as the President of the Trade and Industry Wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal and the party’s Treasurer, joined the march. Addressing the gathering, Sharma said that the present government has reduced governance to mere publicity and is presenting it before the people as development.
He said that the Congress had come to power in Punjab promising to eradicate drugs from the state and had even taken an oath on Gutka Sahib, but instead pushed the state further towards destruction. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party later came to power and followed the same path.
The party had promised to provide ₹1,000 to every woman immediately after forming the government, but only 25% of the women have received the amount, that too after four and a half years.In contrast, Sharma said that during the Shiromani Akali Dal government led by Parkash Singh Badal, every welfare scheme was properly planned and passed in the Legislative Assembly with equitable allocation of funds to ensure that no section of society was left behind in the implementation of public welfare schemes.
He said that the Akali Dal government provided 200 units of free electricity in its very first year, made tubewell connections free during the first year itself, and also launched the Atta-Dal Scheme in the very first year, whereas the Aam Aadmi Party government has spent its entire tenure making promises, many of which it has failed to fulfil properly.
Sharma also appreciated Kheda’s efforts in leading the march and said that no one had truly played the role of an opposition leader in the Kharar constituency until now. However, ever since Kheda started raising people’s grievances, hardships and complaints, public awareness regarding their rights has increased significantly.
He said that Kheda’s grassroots presence over the past sixteen days has demonstrated the commitment expected from local leadership and credited him with giving the people of Kharar a genuine voice after years of neglect.
Appealing to the people of Kharar to vote in favour of Kheda in the upcoming elections, Sharma said that this is the only way through which the constituency can witness real development.Responding to Sharma’s remarks, Kheda thanked him for joining the march and for continuously guiding and supporting the campaign.
Kheda said that the response received from the people of Kharar during the past sixteen days has further strengthened his resolve to continue raising issues such as drug-related deaths, civic neglect and stalled public welfare schemes until the government is compelled to take action.
On the occasion, Harsimran Singh Binny, SC Wing District President Dilbag Singh Mianpur, Aman Sharma, Maan Singh Saini, Patwari Balwinder Singh, Advocate Khadak Singh, Baljinder Singh Longia, Kamaljit Singh Mavi, Charanjit Singh, Malkit Singh Mall, Amritpal Singh, Harbans Singh, Rana Sandeep Jhanjheri, JE Swaranjit Singh, Sonu Sodi and JS Bajwa were also present.
