Along with this he said, I stand to participate in the important discussion on Vande Mataram. On this occasion, I want to pay my respects to the holy land of Bengal – the land from which Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar ji, Raja Rammohan Roy ji, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee ji, Swami Vivekananda ji, Aurobindo Ghosh ji, Khudiram Bose ji, poet Nazrul Islam ji, Rabindranath Tagore ji and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose ji came. There is an amazing power in this holy land of Bengal. The land which gave our country not only our national anthem but also the national anthem.
The poets and writers of that time used such words, composed such poems, composed such songs, whose words gave strength to millions of freedom fighters to bear the oppression of the British. Slogans and songs like Vande Mataram, Rabindranath Tagore’s Where the mind is without fear, Jhanda Uncha Rahe Hamara, Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna, Inquilab Zindabad, Do or Die, Jai Hind, Satyamev Jayate and Quit India gave strength to the country and society. There was an uneasiness in India after the failure of Mangal Pandey’s rebellion. The atrocities of the British had increased in the country. In such a situation, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee ji wrote the first two lines in 1872, which are part of our national anthem today. Then Bankim Chandra Chatterjee ji wrote Anandmath after about 9-10 years, where he added many more lines to those two lines. When Anandamath was written, the East India Company was imposing such taxes on our farmers, due to which life had become very difficult.
Gaurav Gogoi, deputy leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, further said, how did ‘Vande Mataram’ become a slogan? Actually this was a song, which is mentioned in Anandmath, but in 1905 it emerged as a political slogan. In 1905, Viceroy Curzon divided Bengal into two parts. Curzon thought that by doing this he would deal a deep blow to Bengal and the entire country, but this was his mistake. This was the moment when the freedom struggle got a deep strength through the Swadeshi movement. In which the message was sent that India has to rebel with a new vision.
In the coming times, ‘Vande Mataram’ spread widely across the country. Many mediums played an important role in its spread across the country. This slogan which came from Bengal reached Punjab, Maharashtra and Madras through pamphlets and publications. Through translation, the interpretation and basic spirit of ‘Vande Mataram’ and Anandmath reached the entire country. Gradually this slogan of ‘Vande Mataram’ did not just reach the freedom fighters, it also reached among the students.

He further said, in the year 1937, it was decided in the Congress Working Committee that wherever there would be a national gathering, we would sing the lines of ‘Vande Mataram’. Muslim League and Hindu Mahasabha strongly criticized this decision. Not only this, Muslim League and Hindu Mahasabha saw it politically and condemned the Congress party. But if the Congress party runs, it will not run through any Muslim League or Hindu Mahasabha, but with the people of India.
