Now there will be relief from potholes on the highway, NHAI’s AI system will monitor every moment
National Highways Authority of India A major change is going to be made on about 40,000 kilometers of national highways across the country. The government is now preparing to implement AI based dashcam monitoring system, which will make road management faster and smarter than before. The main objective of this step is to provide better and safer travel to the passengers, and it will also be easier to keep a real-time monitor on the condition of the highway.
What is the new AI dashcam system?
This technology is called Dashcam Analytics Service (DAS), which is based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). Under this, high-resolution cameras will be installed in highway patrolling vehicles (RPVs). These cameras will continuously record video and images of the road, which the AI system will process immediately.
Instant identification of more than 30 problems
This smart system can automatically detect more than 30 road problems, such as:
- the pit
- cracks
- road wear
This will significantly reduce the need for manual checking and faults will be revealed immediately, allowing repair work to be done quickly.
Keep an eye on the entire infrastructure, not just the road
This AI system will not be limited to just the road surface, but will monitor the entire highway infrastructure.
This will check:
- Lane Marking and Crash Barrier
- street lights and sign boards
- Illegal cuts and unauthorized hoardings
- Roadside blockage and wrong parking
Besides, problems like waterlogging, blockage of drains and growth of trees and plants will also be monitored.
There will be strict monitoring even at night
To further strengthen road safety, NHAI will also conduct surveys during night time. During this, the visibility of road lights, reflectors and lane markings will be checked, so that accidents occurring at night can be reduced.

Faster action will be taken with real time data
The data received from the cameras will be sent to a central digital platform. Here, through AI analytics and dashboard, officials will be able to see the road situation in real time. It will also be easy to track the progress of repair work by comparing it with old data. For better management, the entire highway network will be divided into 5 zones.
Why is there a big relief for the middle class?
After the implementation of this system, traveling on the highway will become more safe and comfortable. Less accidents, better roads and time saving, all these benefits will directly reach the common people.
