The 54-year-old vice-president of the National Conference (NC) has become the first chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir after the erstwhile state was downgraded to a union territory in 2019.

In his first decision after becoming the chief minister, Abdullah said he has told the Union Territory's top police officer that there is no need for 'green corridors' or 'traffic stop' for them while traveling on the road.

Abdullah said in a post on The inconvenience caused should be minimized and any kind of waving of sticks or aggressive gestures should be avoided completely.

Five cabinet ministers from Omar's cabinet also took oath of office with him in Srinagar on Wednesday, including four National Conference (NC) MLAs and one independent MLA.
