No need to look back, Team India’s winning streak will continue: Rohit Sharma

New Delhi. Former captain of the Indian cricket team and current opener Rohit Sharma on Saturday expressed hope that India’s men’s and women’s cricket teams will continue the great winning streak achieved in recent years and will achieve greater achievements for the country. Rohit Sharma said that Team India has consistently achieved success in ICC tournaments in the last few years, and there is no need to look back now.

He reminded that in 2024, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the men’s team won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, while in early 2025, India won the ICC Champions Trophy. This time was also historic for the women’s team, when under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur the team won the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title for the first time. This year the women’s Under-19 team also won the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

The beginning of 2026 was also great for India. This year, India created history by winning the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup for a record sixth time, while the senior men’s team, under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for a record third time. On this occasion, in a program organized in Mumbai, Rohit Sharma said that he feels proud after seeing the achievements of the Indian cricket teams in the last few years. He told that along with the men’s team, the women’s team winning the World Cup was a great moment for him too.

Rohit said, “What the men’s team did recently was extraordinary. I hope this is just the beginning. There is no need to look back from here, because once you get that momentum, it continues. Both the men’s and women’s teams have that momentum, and we just hope we carry it forward.”

The former captain also underlined that success is not just the result of players, but a lot of people work hard behind the scenes. He said, there is no secret to success. It is the result of hard work and getting opportunities at the right time. Both men and women teams have worked very hard for this. I would like to thank all the staff and collaborators working behind the scenes.

On this occasion, Rohit also discussed T20 Mumbai League. He told that this time along with men’s tournament, women’s competition of three teams will also be organized in the league, which will make this league bigger and more competitive.

  • Rohit believes that competition in cricket in India is very high, hence players should get the right opportunities at the right time along with talent. He expressed hope that Team India will continue to bring glory to the country on the global stage and the winning streak will continue.
