Swastik Samal scores a double century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy : Odisha’s Swastik Samalne Vijay Hazare Trophy History has been made in the competition. Vijay Hazare scored a blistering knock of 212 off 169 balls against Saurashtra at the Alur ground on the first day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy season. With this innings, he became the first batsman from Odisha to score a double century in the history of List-A cricket so far.

The 25-year-old batsman opened the innings for Odisha. However, three batsmen were dismissed in quick succession and Odisha were reduced to 59 for 3 after 11.5 overs. When the team was in trouble then, this Pathya only managed to survive the innings and also made the match memorable with a record double century. Samal along with skipper Biplab Samantaray saved the team. The duo put on a partnership of 261 runs off 211 balls. Apart from the captain’s century, the Odisha team scored 345 runs for 6 wickets in the allotted 50 overs on the strength of Salman’s double century. Saurashtra team successfully chased these runs and won the match. However, Swastik Samal’s double century remained on target.
