No risk in Asian Games… BCCI has selected a strong team, Bumrah will also play

The Asian Games 2026 is to be held in Japan in September-October. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Team India for this competition. BCCI has selected a full-strength T20 team, in which Jasprit Bumrah has also been included. Bumrah has been rested for the tour of Ireland and England. Keeping in view the 2027 ODI World Cup, the selectors are taking precautions regarding Bumrah but he has been selected in the 15-member squad for the Asian Games.

Command in the hands of Shreyas Iyer

31 year old Shreyas Iyer has become the new captain of the Indian T20 team. The command will be in his hands in the Asian Games. Bumrah has been entered in the team in place of Mohammad Siraj. Siraj is included in the team for the tour of Ireland and England. Prince Yadav, selected for this tour, is also not in the Asian Games team.

Vaibhav joins Suryavanshi team

15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been selected for the Asian Games along with the Ireland-England tour. Vaibhav won the Purple Cap in IPL 2026 by scoring 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30, for which he got the reward. Vaibhav has direct competition with Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson for the opening slot.

India had won gold

In the last Asian Games, the Indian team came under the captaincy of Rituraj Gaikwad. Team India won the gold medal in this competition held in Hangzhou, China. The final match played between India and Afghanistan was washed out in rain after 18.2 overs. India won the gold medal on the basis of being the top seed team.

 

This time teams from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Japan, Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Oman are entering the Asian Games. The initial qualifier matches will be played between 24 and 26 September. After this, there will be matches for quarter final (28-29 September), semi-final (1 October) and for bronze medal and gold medal on 3 October.
