There will be no shortage of change in the market! Government clarified the situation on 10, 20 and 50 notes, gave this advice

Indian Currency Supply: There is no shortage of Rs 10,20 and Rs 50 notes in currency circulation in the country. This information was given by the government in Parliament on Tuesday. Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, said that according to the Reserve Bank of India, low value notes have traditionally not been dispensed through ATMs.

Union Minister of State for Finance told Rajya Sabha that a pilot project has been launched to distribute low denomination notes through small denomination note distributors.

Data of notes issued by RBI

According to the government, 439.40 crore notes of Rs 10, 193.70 crore notes of Rs 20 and 130.30 crore notes of Rs 50 have been supplied by the central bank in the current financial year (till February 26). In the last financial year (FY2025), 180 crore notes of Rs 10, 150 crore notes of Rs 20 and 300 crore notes of Rs 50 were supplied.

RBI, under an ongoing process, assesses the requirement of notes of different denominations and advises the government on the mix of notes required. The demand for low value currency is met by a mixture of notes and coins. Moreover, digital payment channels constitute a significant portion of total transactions, including low value transactions.

Digital transaction worth Rs 3.72 lakh

answering another question Pankaj Chaudhary Said that as per the report released by National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), a total of 3.72 lakh digital transactions have been done through RuPay KCC cards in the financial year 2025-26 (till December 31, 2025), valued at Rs 111.17 crore. The loan limit offered to all eligible farmers under KCC is determined according to the scale of crops financed, cultivable area, cropping pattern and related requirements.
