Share Market Closed On 25th December: The domestic stock market is trading in a narrow range this week. After yesterday’s sluggishness, the markets were seen trying to make some gains on Wednesday, but then in the day’s trade, the benchmark indices were seen trading in a range only. But in the meantime, if you were planning to trade in the stock market on Thursday, then it is important to know that the Indian stock markets will remain closed on Thursday, 25th December.

According to the official holiday calendar of the exchanges, there will be no trading for the entire day on December 25 (Christmas) at both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Trading in the market will now resume from Friday, December 26, 2025. After this, there will be no trading in the domestic stock market on 27th and 28th as it will be Saturday and Sunday.

In which segments there will be no trading?

Due to Christmas holiday, all major segments related to the stock market will remain closed on Thursday.

  • equity trading
  • equity derivatives
  • Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLBs)
  • currency derivatives
  • interest rate derivatives

Business will remain completely closed in all these segments. That means investors and traders will not be able to do any kind of transaction.

Will there be trading on MCX?

There will be changes for commodity traders also on Thursday. The morning session on MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) will be completely closed, but the evening session will be open from 5 pm. However, trading in the commodity derivatives segment will also remain limited and overall activity will be normal from the next day.

Let us tell you that the Christmas holiday is the only market holiday of the month of December and along with it it is also the last trading holiday of 2025. After this the market will welcome the new year.

NSE will remain closed for 15 days in 2026

Meanwhile, NSE has also released the trading holiday calendar for the year 2026. Next year, the stock market will be closed for a total of 15 days, out of which 4 holidays are falling on Saturday or Sunday, when the market is closed anyway. The first holiday of 2026 will be on January 26 (Republic Day). In 2026, the month of March will be the most holiday month for the stock market. There are three holidays in this month. The stock market will remain closed on these occasions.

  • 26 March- Shri Ram Navami
  • 31 March- Shri Mahavir Jayanti

There will be no trading holidays in February, July and August, because the national holidays falling in these months fall on weekends. The exchange has also clarified that the Muhurat trading session will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2026. This special session is considered to mark the beginning of the new era on the occasion of Diwali.
