Tripura partners with Noel Tata led Tata Technologies to Modernize 19 ITIs in the state, to elevate the quality of vocational training, equipping students.

In a significant step to boost skill development, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Tata Technologies Ltd to upgrade 19 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state.

The modernization initiative comes with a budget of ₹683.27 crore, with Tata Technologies contributing 86% of the cost. The Tripura government will bear the remaining 14%. Infrastructure Development: In addition, the state government will invest an extra ₹107 crore to enhance the infrastructure of the existing ITIs. The upgradation project is planned to be implemented over a period of five years.

Noel Tata is the chairman of the Tata Trusts and a member of the Tata Sons board. Tata Trusts is the philanthropic arm of the Tata Group and holds a 66% stake in Tata Sons, the parent company of the Tata Group.

“After intense discussion, the state government signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Tata Technologies Ltd today to upgrade the 19 ITIs operating under the Industries and Commerce department. This is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s wish to acquire skill”, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha told reporters.

Saha said the ITIs have been offering old courses which have no job prospects nowadays and the pass-out students used to find it difficult to get jobs.

“Under the upgradation plan, the ITIs will offer new courses which have good job prospects not only in the country but also abroad. Another good side of the plan is that Tata Technologies will absorb the pass-out students of the ITIs in future because it requires skilled manpower”, he said.

Terming the MoA as a milestone in honing skills, the chief minister said the new courses to be offered by the ITIs will attract the students who have lost faith in the old courses.
