Nokia smartphones discontinued, HMD Global officially confirms – ..

This is bad news for Nokia fans. According to Nokiamob report, HMD Global has officially discontinued Nokia brand smartphones. The company has also retired its popular and rugged build quality smartphones like Nokia XR21. Nokia smartphones have been shifted to a separate category on HMD’s website, indicating that they are no longer part of HMD Global’s active product portfolio.

HMD Global took the license of Nokia in 2017

Nokia was once the uncrowned king of the mobile industry. In the 2000s, its devices were popular all over the world. But the growing influence of iOS and Android devices weakened Nokia’s hold.
In the year 2017, HMD Global acquired the license to manufacture and market Nokia brand smartphones. With this move, it was expected that Nokia would re-establish its old identity and hold on the market.

Nokia’s shine fades due to increasing competition

HMD Global launched smartphones like Nokia 6 to reestablish the Nokia brand.

  • These phones were praised for their stock Android experience and superior build quality.
  • However, Nokia’s attractiveness continued to decline in front of smartphones with advanced features from brands like Apple, Samsung and Google.

Despite the launch of innovative devices like Nokia 9 PureView, the company has not been able to do much in the market.

Nokia brand smartphones will no longer be available

HMD Global has also clarified that now new smartphones of Nokia brand will not be launched. However, the company will continue to sell Nokia feature phones.

Nokia’s new identity: Leadership in telecom and 5G

However, despite retreating from the smartphone market, Nokia has established itself as a strong player in network infrastructure, telecommunications, and 5G technology.

  • Nokia now maintains its leadership in areas such as cloud computing and Internet of Things (IoT).
  • In this area, the company has made significant progress in 5G technology.
