Non-bailable warrant against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Gandapur and three others in Pakistan

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad, Pakistan today issued non-bailable warrants against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and three other politicians. The four are accused in a case registered under terrorism charges following the March 18, 2023 vandalism at a judicial complex in the capital. Gandapur is a prominent leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The arrest warrant is linked to a case registered under terrorism charges at Islamabad's I-9 police station.

Apart from Gandapur, the ATC has also issued non-bailable arrest warrants against former Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Istehkam-e-Pakistan leader Amir Mehmood Kayani and PTI leader Raja Rashid Hafeez, Geo News reported. The court declared former PTI leader Umar Tanvir Butt a fugitive for being absent continuously. It also accepted the plea of PTI leader Faisal Javed for exemption from appearing in the hearing in this case.

Anti-terrorism court judge Tahir Abbas Sipra rejected Chief Minister Gandapur's bail plea before issuing a non-bailable warrant. During the hearing, Gandapur's lawyer told the judge that the Chief Minister had told him that he cannot appear in court due to the roads being closed. Therefore, the court should give him a chance. The judge said that last time too he had fixed a hearing date of Gandapur's choice, but it was of no use. After this, the judge adjourned the hearing till October 3.

The non-bailable arrest warrant against Gandapur has come before the important rally (show of strength) of PTI to be held in Lahore today. Chief Minister Gandapur is leading a caravan of PTI supporters from Dera Ismail Khan to Lahore. Amidst this development, the Peshawar High Court has banned the arrest of Chief Minister Gandapur. The court has said that he should not be arrested in any province of the country till October 5. Gandapur has got relief from this order of the Peshawar High Court. The court has issued a detailed order. The order said that the petitioner Gandapur has already expressed apprehension of arrest in the federal capital and Punjab. The High Court has sought details of all the cases registered against Gandapur in the federal capital and Punjab.
