Nora Fatehi appears before National Commission for Women, presents side on ‘Sarke Chunar’ controversy

Nora Fatehi: The ongoing controversy regarding the popular song ‘Sarke Chunar’ from the Kannada film KD – The Devil has now reached the National Commission for Women. After receiving complaints regarding the performance of actress Nora Fatehi in the song, the Commission had summoned her on Thursday to present her side.

According to sources, Nora Fatehi appeared before the commission on Thursday morning, where the hearing lasted for about two hours. During this, he was asked questions regarding the presentation of the song, filming and its impact on the society. Sources claim that the actress expressed her regret in writing and said that in future she will be more careful about such content, which does not hurt the sentiments of any section.

According to sources, during the hearing, Nora Fatehi also apologized in writing to Commission Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar. She said that she herself is a woman and takes full care of women’s respect. It is noteworthy that Nora Fatehi is not an Indian citizen, but an Australian citizen of Moroccan origin. Despite this, she reportedly assured that she would avoid such songs and content in future.

According to sources, the actress has also promised to bear the education expenses of about 100 orphan girls as part of her social responsibility. However, no official confirmation has yet come from the Commission or the actress on this claim.

Actually, after the release of the song, there was a strong reaction to it on social media. Many users and women’s organizations alleged that the lyrics and filming of the song are against the dignity of women and promote obscenity. On this basis, the Commission had received many complaints.

‘Content that insults or harms dignity is not acceptable’

The Commission says that content that insults women or hurts their dignity in the name of entertainment is not acceptable. Social responsibility and public impact of artists were also discussed during the hearing.

Actor Sanjay Dutt has already appeared before the Commission in this case. According to sources, he also clarified that his intention was not to hurt anyone’s sentiments.

The Women’s Commission, headed by Vijaya Rahatkar, reiterated that artists in public life should understand the social impact of their work and choose content responsibly.
