Nora Fatehi, Sanjay Dutt get legal notice over ‘Sarke Chunar’ song
Controversy around the song, Sarke Chunar Teri Sarkefrom the upcoming Kannada film KD: The Devilrefuses to settle down after being taken down from all online platforms following severe backlash over inappropriate lyrics.
After the lyricist Raqueeb Alam distanced himself from the poetry saying he was asked to translate from Kannada despite his objection, now the singer also opens up about it.
Singer apologised
As the criticism grew, vocalist Mangli addressed the issue on Wednesday, confirming that the team has taken corrective steps.
She wrote on Instagram, “It was never meant to hurt anyone’s sentiments, and we truly regret the oversight. The corrected version of the lyrics has now been updated, and the revised version of the song will be released today evening.”
NCW summoned
On the other hand, the National Commission for Women has summoned actors Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, along with others, over what it calls “sexually suggestive” and “objectionable” content.
In its statement, the Commission said it had taken “suo motu cognizance” of reports around the song, adding that the material appears to violate provisions under Indian law.
Lyricist Raqueeb Alam and producer Venkat K Narayana are among those asked to appear on 24 March, with a warning that “Failure to appear may invite appropriate action as per law.”
The song itself has drawn criticism for both its lyrics and choreography. Its opening verse uses double meanings that many say are graphic, even if later lines shift the context. Clips circulating online also led to complaints about objectification.
Responding to the backlash, the performer Nora wrote on Instagram: “I would hate for anyone to think I endorse this. Thank you for the backlash because of this pressure, the filmmakers have luckily taken it down.”
She claimed that she was not aware that a Hindi version of the song would be released, and blamed the makers for not listening to her opinions and creating the Hindi version of the song without her knowledge.
