Work permit canceled in ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ song controversy
The lawyers have referred to the Foreigners Act 1946, the Passport (Entry into India) Act 1920 and other legal provisions. A copy of the petition has also been sent to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Central Board of Film Certification, Ministry of Electronics and IT and National Commission for Women.
Nora gave clarification after the growing controversy
Lawyers argue that the right of foreign nationals to work in India is a privilege, not a right. If their work affects public order or morality, the government can take action. Amidst this controversy, Nora Fatehi in her clarification said that she had shot the song in the Kannada version three years ago. He had no knowledge about the Hindi version and its lyrics.
She said, “I was not aware of the Hindi dubbing and inappropriate lyrics. I do not support such obscenity.” Nora accused the directors and producers of creating such content and trapping the artists. National Commission for Women has also issued a notice regarding this song. Lyricist Rakib Alam accused the directors of forcefully getting the Kannada songs translated into Hindi. However, in this controversy, most of the attention is on Nora Fatehi, while not that much attention is being given to Sanjay Dutt or the filmmakers. At present, no official decision has come from the Home Ministry or other departments. It will be interesting to see whether Nora’s work permit will be canceled or deportation action will be taken.
