North India hit by cold, alert in many states, read today’s weather condition

North India is currently in the grip of severe cold and cold wave. From Uttar Pradesh to Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Kashmir, cold has increased the problems of the people. Dense fog is prevalent in many states in the morning, affecting road and air traffic. Due to cold winds the temperature is continuously going down and melting is increasing.

 

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding cold wave in many districts of Uttar Pradesh. Light fog was seen in the morning in the areas of Awadh and Western UP including the capital Lucknow, while visibility remained very low in cities like Noida and Ghaziabad. Even on the day of Makar Sankranti, there are less chances of getting relief from cold. According to the Meteorological Department, the effect of cold has intensified due to the cold winds blowing from the north and western disturbances.

Alert issued in these states of UP

The Meteorological Department has issued orange alert in many districts of UP. Also, there is a possibility of light rain in Western Uttar Pradesh on January 18 and 19. On the day of Makar Sankranti, there has been a warning of cold wave in Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Kanpur, Ayodhya, Agra, Mathura, Meerut, Noida, Jhansi, Bareilly and Aligarh. The temperature may fall further in Lucknow.

 

The effect of cold has once again intensified in Noida. The minimum temperature reached 3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. There was dense fog in the morning and the level of pollution was also very bad. Visibility reduced significantly in many areas, due to which vehicles were seen moving slowly on the roads. There was fog in Ghaziabad also in the morning, which gradually reduced as the day progressed.

 

According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature is falling due to western disturbance and cold winds coming from the north. There is little chance of getting relief from the cold in the coming few days.

How is the weather in Uttarakhand?

The weather will be dry in all the districts in Uttarakhand today. Orange alert has been issued regarding dense to very dense fog in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. Dense fog may also occur at some places in the plains of Nainital, Champawat, Pauri and Dehradun. Life is being affected due to fog in the plains and frost in the hilly areas.

 

There was light fog in Dehradun on Wednesday morning but there was some relief due to strong sunlight in the afternoon. The cold has increased due to frost in the morning and evening in the hilly areas. According to the Meteorological Centre, a new western disturbance may become active on Friday, causing light rain in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh and snowfall in higher reaches.

 

Due to cold wave warning in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, holiday has been declared in schools and Anganwadi centres. At the same time, there is a possibility of frost due to falling temperature in the mountainous areas.

Weather in Punjab Haryana

Cold wave continues in many parts of North India. The maximum temperature in Punjab and Haryana has gone much below normal. The minimum temperature was 0.5 degrees Celsius recorded in Hisar, Haryana. Many areas of Punjab are also experiencing severe cold.

Kashmir weather

The situation remains more serious in Kashmir Valley. The minimum temperature in Srinagar has fallen to minus 5.2 degrees. Shopian was the coldest area, where the temperature was recorded at minus 7.5 degrees. Many parts of Dal Lake have frozen, affecting tourism and activities of local people.

 

The Meteorological Department said that cold wave and dense fog may persist in many states of North India for the next two days. This may affect road and air traffic. Experts have advised people to wear warm clothes and take care of health to protect themselves from cold, especially children and the elderly.
