Norway Chess 2025: World Champion De Guesche creates history by defeating Magnus Carlsen Gujarati

New Delhi: World champion Domraju Gukshe achieved a spectacular victory against former world number 1 Magnus Carlsen in the round 6 of the Norway Chess 2025 tournament. De Guckes’ victory against Magnus Carlsen was historic, as he turned the tables from a losing position. This was Gukesh’s first classical victory against this giant.

19-year-old Gukesh also became the second Indian player to defeat Carlsen in the history of the competition, before which Rameshbabu Praggnanandha had defeated Carlsen. Magnus Carlsen’s reaction after losing to Gukesh in this match was worth seeing.

Carlson dominated Gukesh for most of the match, but in the end he lost his courage and the young player won the match. With this win, De Guesche moved to third place in the Norway Chess 2025 points table with 8.5 points and is now just one point behind Carlsen and American Fabiano Caruana.

This was Gukesh’s first classical match since winning the world title and also marked Carlsen’s return to individual classical chess after almost a year. Reacting to the win, Gukesh’s coach and Grandmaster Vishnu Prasanna praised him.
