New Delhi. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded to the discussion on the budget in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. He said, in the Union Budget 2026-27, the Center will work with the states to create mega textile parks and the emphasis in the budget has been on animal husbandry, farming and fisheries. He stressed that the government has given priority to labour-intensive sectors in the budget. Under this, special attention has been given to the biopharma sector.

Expressing commitment to provide large domains to startups for their expansion, the Finance Minister has made it clear that the Central Government is fully ready to work with the states for the development of mega textile parks. He said, the gross tax receipts in this budget are estimated to be Rs 44.04 lakh crore. This is about 8% more than the estimated revenue of 2025-26, i.e. it has increased by Rs 3.26 lakh crore. If we look at the total expenditure for 2026-27, it is Rs 53.47 lakh crore, which is much more than our tax receipts. Capital expenditure is pegged at Rs 12.22 lakh crore, which is 3.1% of GDP and 11.5% higher than estimated revenues for 2025-26.
Earlier, speaking in the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman rejected the allegations of some opposition MPs about non-transfer of their tax share from the Center to the states, saying that the government has not reduced any state’s share from the Centre’s divisible pool. Sitharaman said, “We are accused of not transferring 41 per cent tax share to the states. I assure through the House that we have not reduced any state’s share from the Centre’s divisible pool.”
