Not R Ashwin! Ajay Jadeja picks the biggest positive from the IND vs BAN first Test

India defeated Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test of the two-match series in Chennai. Former India National Cricket Team player Ajay Jadeja picked Rishabh Pant as the most significant positive from the contest. He said that Pant’s knock ended all the doubts about his abilities to handle the pressure of red-ball cricket after his car accident.

Pant scored 39 runs in the first innings and followed it up with 109 in the second. “If you have to pick the biggest positive from the first Test, it would be Rishabh Pant. It has emotions attached to it as he was making a comeback to Test format after a long time. As Sanjay Manjrekar says, Rishabh Pant is a rare gem,” he said on Colour Cineplex.

“Rishabh was confident about himself, but we were doubting him. He hasn’t changed his approach. He played the game the same way he used to before his accident. However, you get assured when he scores a hundred,” he added.

Ajay pointed out that Pant doesn’t play for records.

“He is not influenced by numbers. Pant was batting aggressively after scoring a hundred as well. He could have been dismissed earlier, but his catch was dropped. Only brave people get the luck.”

Rishabh Pant will get better after scoring a century: Ajay Jadeja

Ajay Jadeja opined that a century in the Chennai Test will boost Pant’s confidence.

“He is a positive guy, and now that he has got a good start, he will only get better.”

Jadeja further said that Rishabh has yet to bat in situations where he can only save India from defeat.

“He hasn’t batted in a situation where he can only save the team from a defeat. In the past, he has won several close games, and only a rare gem can do it.”
