The maximum speed limit of vehicles on Yamuna Expressway is set at 75 kilometers per hour. It is mandatory to maintain a distance of 70 meters between two vehicles. But most of the drivers are ignoring these rules. Especially during fog in winter, visibility reaches zero due to which incidents of collision and overturning increase.

According to the data, there were 146 deaths in 763 accidents in 2017, 111 deaths in 659 accidents in 2018, 195 deaths in 560 accidents in 2019, 122 deaths in 509 accidents in 2020, 136 deaths in 424 accidents in 2021, In 2022, 106 deaths were recorded in 303 accidents, in 2023, 95 deaths in 411 accidents, and in 2024, 112 deaths were recorded in 528 accidents. Whereas in 2025, the year has not even ended yet and the number of accidents has reached 1198, which clearly shows the seriousness of the situation.

30 thousand vehicles pass through the expressway every day

About 30 thousand vehicles pass through Yamuna Expressway every day. The risk further increases due to more number of heavy vehicles and high speed cars. Sleep, overspeeding and not maintaining safe distance are considered to be the main reasons for accidents.

Steps being taken for security

According to the Yamuna Expressway Toll Administration, free tea is being served to heavy vehicle drivers at night and pamphlets are being distributed for safe travel. The speed limit for light vehicles has been fixed at 75 km per hour and for heavy vehicles at 60 km per hour. Reflector tapes are being installed on large vehicles and security features are being increased as per need.

Traffic pressure may increase further

After the opening of Noida International Airport, Jewar, the traffic pressure on Yamuna Expressway is likely to increase further. In such a situation, if drivers do not follow the rules then the risk of accidents can become more serious. Experts say that strict adherence to safe distance and speed limit is the most effective way to prevent accidents, otherwise this trend will continue on Yamuna Expressway.
