Notice of no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla
Bureau Prayagraj. The opposition on Tuesday submitted a notice to the Lok Sabha Secretariat to bring a motion to remove Speaker Om Birla from the post over allegations of “not allowing” Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to speak and creating inappropriate situation in the House against Congress’s women MPs during the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha. Deputy leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, Congress Chief Whip Kodikunil Suresh and MP Mohammad Javed and others submitted this notice to the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
The notice has been signed by over 100 MPs from Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK and several other opposition parties. Under Article 94 (C) of the Constitution, this notice related to the proposal has been submitted to the Lok Sabha Secretariat. On February 2, there was a deadlock in the House over Rahul Gandhi not being allowed to raise the topic related to the unpublished memoirs of former Army Chief MM Naravane during the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address, suspension of eight opposition MPs in the case of contempt of the House and other issues. The opposition alleges that opposition leaders are not being allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha, while people from the ruling party have been given freedom to say anything.
