Based on the ‘UPI Circle’ framework of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), this feature will now give children the freedom of digital transactions, but with complete parental control.
What is the ‘Pocket Money’ feature and how does it work?
This feature of Google Pay is a ‘Primary and Secondary’ Works on models. In this, parents will be the ‘primary user’, whose bank account is linked to Google Pay. At the same time, the child will be the ‘secondary user’. The biggest feature of this feature is that the child does not need to open his own bank account to use UPI. He will be able to make payment directly from his parents’ account. It is exactly like giving your child pocket money while going out of the house, only now the process has become completely digital.
Two types of control: Control of expenditure will be in the hands of parents
Google has taken special care of security in this feature. Parents will have two control options:
Full Delegation (Monthly Limit): Parents can set a monthly limit of up to ₹15,000 for their child. Within this limit the child will be able to make payments without taking repeated permission.
Partial Delegation (Approval on every payment): In this mode, whenever the child scans the QR code, the payment will be successful only when the parents ‘approve’ it from their phone.
Super easy setup process
If you also want to start this digital pocket money for your children, then follow these steps:
Open Google Pay app on your phone and ‘Profile’ Click on the icon.
scroll down and ‘UPI Circle’ Select the option.
‘Add Secondary User’ Click on and select your child’s mobile number (note that GPay must be registered on their phone also).

Why is this new change necessary?
This feature will prove to be a game-changer for teenagers (13-18 years) who used to depend on cash for small expenses while going to college or tuition. This will not only make children digitally literate, but also allow parents to keep a real-time track of their children’s expenses. This step of Google Pay will further strengthen the cashless economy in India, especially among the young generation who will now be able to be a part of the digital world safely without any bank hassles.
